The Cure for Insomnia is the world's longest film (film: Photographic material consisting of a base of celluloid covered with a photographic emulsion; used to make negatives or transparencies) , according to the Guinness Book of World Records (Guinness Book of World Records: the guinness book of records (or in recent editions guinness world records,...

Groban reading his poetry (poetry: Literature in metrical form) over the course of four days inter-spliced with occasional clips from heavy metal (heavy metal: A metal of relatively high density (specific gravity greater than about 5) or of high relative atomic weight) and X-rated (X-rated: x-rated, x certificate, x classification or similar terms are labels for movies...

It was first played in its entirety at The School Of The Art Institute (The School Of The Art Institute: more facts about this subject) in Chicago (Chicago: Largest city in Illinois; a bustling Great Lakes port that extends 26 miles along the southwestern shoreline of Lake Michigan) , Illinois (Illinois: A Midwest state in north-central United States) from January 31 to February 3, 1987 in one continuous showing. It is not clear whether or not the movie has been released to the public since then. Considering that a normal DVD (DVD: A digital videodisc; a recording (as of a movie) on an optical disk that can be played on a computer or a television set) can only hold 4 hours, The Cure for Insomnia would end up being around 22 discs.

The film is entirely shot on video (video: The visible part of a television transmission) . Its original purpose was only to reprogram the brains of insomnia (insomnia: An inability to sleep; chronic sleeplessness) sufferers. Because of these two facts it is still debated whether or not The Cure for Insomnia can even be considered in the same category as other candidates for longest film.
